Instead of going to a weekend or online seminar and taking a test, I've just been coaching for 14 years! My certification is the hundreds of runners I've worked with one-on-one to figure out what works for real people with busy lives who aren't trying to win their next race but just want to show up having enjoyed training and are ready to have a good event, whatever that means for YOU.
Whether it's on your phone or computer, you have access to a fully customized training plan that includes all the pieces of a schedule along with check-in calls, reminders to foam roll, and even some meditation and yoga if you're into that sort of thing.
It will sync with your GPS watch and you can even send the runs directly to it if you want.
Aside from myself, Shannon Mick NCC, LPC is a licensed counselor, mom, and bad ass ultra marathoner!
She helps me continually check-in and follow along with our clients throughout the week to make sure you get the attention you deserve and support you along the way.
Listen, I'm doing my own thing with my training and family, but Coach Shannon and myself also do this for a living and are always available M-F following along with your training. And if you have a quick question about your schedule, send me a text, it's cool!
Along with communication through the app or quick text messages, I do office hours once weekly where I vary up the day of the week and time of day to hit different schedules. If you have a question for me, just want to listen in, or chitchat with some of my the clients, let's do it!
Need some extra help, we'll get on a 1:1 call to talk about how things are going, to game-plan your next race strategy, or talk about your next training cycle.
I joke that my #1 priority is to get you doing what you want to be doing and hit the goals you have in the safest must sustainable way possible, because if you get hurt or burn out, I'm out of a job 😄 But seriously, I'm grateful that for a living I get to help people run better and feel stronger.

If you were crushing it, you wouldn't be reading this right now.
We both know you can do better.
But instead, you're talking yourself out of runs or strength work.
Feeling run down during long runs and not being able to show up how you'd like with your family afterward.
Spending months training for events only to feel disappointed in your pace.
Telling yourself you're going to fuel better but end up eating like a garbage panda when snacks show up.
Your family likes you more when you run!
Heck, YOU like you more when you're running consistently.
And it starts to feel really good when you start to notice or see those strength gains.
1:1 run coaching with Coach Kyle you get:
I used to do them, they're not fun.
Want to know a secret?
When you see coaches offer free "discovery calls" or "consultation calls", those are sales calls and they're simply trying to get you to hire them.
You're busy and frankly I'm also busy between my own running, serving my clients, and spending time with my family and I don't waste either our time.
So here's what I do instead of the high pressure sales call:
If you think this will be good for you and you want to give it a try, here are the next steps:
I grew up on a small family owned dairy farm in eastern South Dakota, used to weigh 230 pounds, and suffered from depression.
No, I didn’t run in high school or college. There’s lots of people faster than me.
But I've still managed to do some ultras, run a couple sub3 hour marathons and become a pretty good runner. I’ve been coaching for 14 years and can relate to what you’re going through.
I’ve put in the work, earned a degree in nutrition, and enjoy helping people who don’t necessarily need to win their next event just be the best runner runner they can without getting hurt, hitting the wall, or sacrificing family time.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Q: I’m not a "real" runner yet, is this for me?
Absolutely. In fact, this is exactly who I love to help. I believe anyone who wants some guidance and accountability to do a better job at anything, be in swimming, learning a new language, or yes even running can benefit from a coach or tutor.
We don’t start with grueling track repeats or 20-mile slogs; we start where you are today. My goal is to build your confidence and your base mileage so gradually that you’ll look back in three months and be amazed at what feels "easy."
Q: How much time will this take? I have a family and a job?
I hear you! I’m a dad, husband, and biz owner.
Training shouldn’t feel like a second job or make you so tired you are useless after the weekend long run. My coaching is designed to fit into the "cracks" of your life. If you only have 30 minutes on a Tuesday, that’s what we work with. We prioritize consistency over intensity so you can be the best runner you can be without sacrificing the people who matter most.
Q: I’m afraid of getting injured. How do we prevent that?
Most beginner injuries happen because of the "too much, too soon" trap. We avoid that by using a sustainable approach to training loads and by "normalizing" simple, effective strength training.
Let's build a body that is resilient, not fragile. We’re playing the long game here.
Q: What exactly happens after I sign up?
Once you join, the "guessing game" ends. We’ll start with a deep-dive consultation to talk about your history and your schedule. I’ll get you set up on Final Surge (our training platform), where you’ll see your daily workouts. From there, you just lace up and go. Shannon and I monitor your data and feedback daily to make sure the plan is actually working for your life.
Q: Do I need a gym membership?
Nope! Unless you have one super handy I usually suggest avoiding spending the extra time commuting or money on a membership.
In reality you don't need any equipment, but a yoga mat is nice and we can do bodyweight strength on that, however a couple sets of dumbbells and /or a few stretchy bands is about all you really need.
Q: Does my location matter?
I coach people here locally in Rapid City, SD just like I coach my clients in Europe.
Because we're all busy and I honestly don't want to meet a client at the track at 6am or 6pm! Instead you get to run when and where work best for you.
And we do pretty much everything just as if we were in the same town with the check-in calls, Final Surge training app, and form analysis.
Q: How do we keep me from "hitting the wall"??
"The Wall" isn't just for marathoners; it’s that feeling of total exhaustion that ruins your day. We prevent it in three ways:, get you stronger, learn smart pacing and implement basic fueling. I’ll teach you how to run at an effort level that builds your fitness without draining your tank, and we’ll find a simple nutrition strategy that keeps your energy stable from start to finish.
Q: What if I have to miss a few days of training??
Life happens. Kids get sick, work trips pop up, or sometimes you just need a nap. In this program, there is no such thing as being "behind." If you miss a few days, we don't try to "cram" those miles into the next week. We simply adjust the plan and keep going. My job is to take the guilt out of training.
Q: Can I talk to you when I’m struggling or have questions?
You know it! A coach is great when your training is going well, but when there's illness in the house, travel or weather interrupts your regular schedule, or work/life stress is impacting your training, instead of completely falling off the plan we instead adjust the plan to what will work for you not only when things are going smoothly but when life gets a bit rough - because let's be honest this is often the time when running is the hardest to do but when you may need it most.
Q: How is this different from a cheap AI coaching app?
An app doesn't know that you had a stressful day at work or that you stayed up late with a teething toddler. An AI will tell you to run 5 miles regardless of how you feel; I tell you when to pivot. Shannon and I provide human empathy, nuanced adjustments, and 30+ years of combined experience that an algorithm simply can't replicate. You get a plan that evolves with your life in real-time, not a rigid script.
