I wanted to talk briefly about something calledHaglund’s deformity.

I’m bringing this up because somebody emailed me asking about suggestions.

What it is is a bony enlargement on the back of the heel the soft tissue near the Achilles tendon becomes irritated when the bony enlargement rubs against shoes. This often leads to painful bursitis which is an inflammation of the bursa fluid like a fluid-filled sac between the tendon and bone.

So if you imagine a heel, it’s literally a bump and some people (if you google image search Haigh lungs deformity) you can see a bump on the back of somebody’s heel.

Surgery is unfortunately a way to remedy the situation. The nice thing is that it’s often very successful and if you have this issue, surgery is never fun but if you have this issue, surgery can be extremely helpful.

Another option that could maybe put off surgery or if you notice a little bit of this bump developing it could really help the situation is to find shoes that are super soft back behind the heel.

If you’re having heel problems and can feel a bump, it may be Haglund’s Deformity →
